ApoE3 types have a “normal” ability to utilize fat and carbohydrates as fuel. They do well with a balanced combination of healthy fat, carbohydrate, and protein.
Apo E4 Types

ApoE4 types do well on a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet (as long as those carbohydrates come from unrefined, whole-food, good-quality sources). These are the ones that do fantastically well on a low-fat vegan diet. ApoE4 types do not metabolize fat well. For them, too much fat, even good fat, will clog the blood vessels and cause obesity, high triglycerides, and high cholesterol. Type 4s are the most prone to Alzheimer’s disease, which can result from poor fat metabolism. ApoE4 types really need to limit their fat intake and to make sure, when they do eat it, that it is in small amounts and of the highest quality.
